This is at the Malaspina Galleries. I would have taken one of those lovely scenic overview shots, but there were people sunbathing under the overhanging rock, and I’m sure they don’t want photos of their partly-naked bodies on some stupid blog. And anyway, this photo shows the part that amuses me. See what it is? [...]

The other day I blogged about the new 707 Community Park sign on North Road. Today Howard Houle sent us these photos, so we can see what the rest of the new signage looks like. Thanks, Howard!

My stars, the people behind this ‘new signage’ thing are plenty energetic. In addition to all the new signs within the 707, there’s this sign at the park entrance on North Road, in the Tunnel area. Do you think it will stick around, or will it succumb to vandalism the way most signs do around [...]

This sign seems to be one of a series. It’s on North Road in the Tunnel area, and is probably there to let discombobulated (wedding?) guests know they’re on the right track. On an island that lacks maps, the poor dears obviously need encouragement and guidance. But I’m celebrating this sign as a half way [...]

This Stanley Park Restoration sign is in the middle of the Gabriola woods, on a rather obscure trail.

The Gabriola Elementary School is closed for the summer, which means that nobody official is around to notice that the school sign has been modified a bit. Dear sign modifiers: why, thank you!

You’ve driven past this sign (on Church Street at North Road) a zillion times. Were you there for the Updating of the Sign yesterday? (Or was it Friday? I forget.) I was; I watched as a fellow modified this sign to add the now open part. I presume he was a volunteer, and what a [...]

This has got to be one of our island’s more perplexing signs.

Do you know where this sign is? And do you pay the least bit of attention to it, or do you turn left here with almost everbody else on the island?

This sign amuses me no end. What has happened to the poor un-lost cat, and how many times?

Hey, do you remember the fuss over roadside signs on Gabriola a while back? It seems to me that the Islands Trust bylaw guy was going to get involved, and that businesses with roadside signs around the island would be ordered to remove those signs or face fines. Predictable amounts of fuss and discussion ensued. [...]

There are an awful lot of no trespassing and keep out signs on Gabriola these days. But then there are a few signs like this one: far less severe, and it even says please. I’d like to meet the owner of this property.

At this time of year, pedestrians are difficult to see in the evening. I’m not suggesting that we add any signs about this, but if we were to do so, I’d opt for the first sign shown in the Haiku Traffic Signs article: She walks in beauty Like the night. Maybe that’s why Drivers can’t [...]

If you’ve got a don’t do that! sign on Gabriola, chances are that somebody’s going to rip that sign down and get rid of it for you. This sign has been discarded at the side of North Road in the Tunnel. Where did it come from?

Here’s a fine addition to the island’s collection of home-made signs. Have you seen it? It’s on North Road. This one makes me smile. (See also: Gabriola ‘slow’ signs post from April, 2011.)

This sign appeared a while ago on North Road. You didn’t steal any tables, did you?

A fair number of people get married on Gabriola in the summertime – we seem to be a bit of a wedding destination for people who don’t live on the island, as well as those who have some sort of Gabriola connection. One of the things wedding organizers often do these days is to post [...]
