Meals on Wheels on Gabriola?
I happened to notice that Greenwoods Elder Care Society asked for expressions of interest in providing Meals on Wheels on Mayne Island.
According to the Mayne Island page on Wikipedia, Mayne has a population of 1100 or so. Our population on Gabriola (4,000 or so) is much higher.
So I’m just curious: do we have Wheels on Meals here on Gabriola?

The Health Care Auxiliary is looking into establishing this service; that’s partly what the new thrift shop they are running in the former Roxy hopes to fund.

Interesting; Gabriola used to (I remember seeing the meal coolers being wheeled off the Gabriola ferry). Am I right? Does anyone know why it stopped?

Does that mean meals were cooked in Nanaimo – or further afield – and sent to Gabriola for distribution? Hardly likely to retain the quality and attractiveness needed to encourage anyone recovering from illness to want to eat them. Surely the island can do better than this for its residents in need?
I just wonder if there could be benefits in those seeking to meet the need for the school lunch program got together with those seeking to establish meals on wheels for those in need, and perhaps making links with the Food Bank and /or the Commons forthcoming Community Kitchen. Gabriola is a small community so linking initiatives gives them a better chance of achieving viability and avoids competition for limited resources, both monetary and personnel.
