The Good Gym
Somebody in London has organised a brilliant thing called the Good Gym. The how it works page explains:
GoodGym provides meaningful ways to exercise. It connects people who want to get fit with physical tasks that need to be done, and which benefit the community. We can do anything from shifting rubble, and planting gardens to making deliveries and friendly visits to older people. [continue]
Would this kind of thing work on Gabriola? We have runners who are eager enough to run up Brickyard Hill. Maybe some of those people would like to run over and visit somebody once a week or so.

What a brilliant idea! And it might be easier to do in a small community like this one than somewhere huge like east London.

Mary – it sounds awfully fun, doesn’t it? If I were involved with a running group or a gym I’d be tempted to start something like this.

Sounds like a match made in heaven.

Anon E Mouse – it does, doesn’t it? If the local gym owners or running club felt like doing this kind of thing, that could work really well. Or maybe a local charity… hmmm.
Still, it’s easy to come up with ideas of things that would be cool to have on Gabriola (I have dozens!) and harder to find somebody who feels like setting up such a scheme and running it. Most of us are already volunteering for all kinds of different groups and projects.
