For cyclists who venture forth in the snow
We’ve got some dedicated cyclists on Gabriola. Are you one of them?
If you’re determined to ride on snowy roads and trails, here’s something you might like to try: zap straps (also known as zip ties) on your tires for added traction. The Dutch Bike Company of Seattle explains all in their Seattle Snowpocalypse blog post. Pretty snazzy, hmm?

Just saw a report on the weather station about a company and winter bike riders in Ontario that were selling and riding on snow tires made just for bikes. quit snazzy tires. But I suppose if you didn’t have access to these tires the zap straps would work in a pinch, and effectively.

Some years ago while visiting Keno, up in the northern Yukon, we spotted this in the local museum: yes, it’s a motorcycle adapted for snow. The tires are VERY fat.

That’s a remarkable motorcycle, skadhu! You gonna get one for next snow-time?
