So, not a giant beer bottle
What do you suppose this is doing in the Gabriola woods?
At first I thought it was the world’s biggest beer bottle, but no. It’s made of plastic, and the letters on the plastic say PERFEX. Is this another leftover from somebody’s forest grow-op?

I dunno about this fixation you have with beer…speaking of which, I read the article in your link about the drunken monkeys at Discover magazine and then browsed some other stories at the magazine and found this little gem:

Seem to recall you’re a mosquito magnet, Gabriolan?

More likely an old bleach bottle, from when dumping your garbage in the woods was the kosher thing to do.

I think Rick is right. A little snooping on the web turned up this old ad for Perfex bleach which came in a gallon jug. It’s at the bottom of page 8 in the pdf. And for only 98 cents back in the 1950s!

Andrea – I am a mosquito magnet, yes… and thanks for the interesting article. (Note to self: no visiting places where one might be likely to catch malaria.)
Andrea and Rick – I do come across garbage in the woods, but there’s usually more than one item. Why would this bottle be way off on its own?
Oh well. Maybe it just caught my imagination because it did look like a giant beer bottle when I first saw it.

My property has had stuff dumped on it over the years. I’ve found many really old bottles from an earlier settlement. Often only one thing is obvious, an other stuff is hidden by moss, etc.
