A Gabriola house fire
From the Nanaimo News Bulletin: House fire displaces Gabriola Island family.
A burning candle left unattended is to blame for a fire that has displaced a family from their home on Gabriola Island.
Just after 3 p.m. Tuesday, a neighbour on Clarendon Road noticed smoke pouring from the living room of the single family dwelling.

Hi Gabriolan, do you have a house number on Clarendon…I own a rental house on Clarendon and live off island…and can’t get ahold of my tenant…..

Yikes… “Nobody was home, but a candle had been left burning on a table in the living room.”
Sorry to hear about that. I’m really glad this event didn’t escalate to something more major that would have perhaps involved neighbouring locations.
I always try to be aware of potential fire hazards on Gabriola and take into consideration the role I play in using and managing fire around my own property.
That said, mistakes are also a part of life.

Sorry, Carol, I don’t. You might try calling the Gabriola Volunteer Fire Department to ask them. I’m not sure if they’d be able to release that kind of information or not (privacy concerns?) but perhaps if you say they’d be able to give you a yes or no.
