Enjay’s new potato box design
Last week I blogged about potato boxes and why you want one, and that post included directions for building a potato box. Today enjay, who is one of the bloggers at pericat.ca, added this comment:
I’ve just built a potato box that can be easily disassembled into component parts for storing and reassembled in just a few minutes by using a system with bolts.
It’s a bit of a design experiment; this is version 1 and it may change over time if things don’t work out quite as hoped. In theory I should be able to build up without screwing or nailing anything else on to it by relying on the weight of the dirt. Also in theory I can access lower levels of dirt in order to extract potatoes without harvesting the whole thing. I’m less certain that part of it will work, but figured I’d give it a try, as doing so doesn’t significantly change the overall design.
This sounds awfully cool.
Enjay supplied the image you see here, and (in .pdf format) the plans for this potato box. Seems like a brilliant system. Thanks, enjay!
UPDATE: Pericat.ca now has more details about these potato boxes, including photos, and illustrations. Go look!

Skookum!
I really like the sliding boards idea. Why didn’t I think of that? I built my potato box last weekend, basically following the earlier design posted on Gabriolan. It looks mighty fine, but not at cool as this one.
