Here’s another trailmarker in the Gabriola woods: a glass perfume bottle that sits on an old stump.

It’s always fun to see what weird stuff appears in the woods, but this one I worry about. The bottle is made out of glass, and the sun shines through that decorative stopper, which is also glass. Is it a fire hazard, do you think? I’m not worried about it now, but in the middle of summer when Gabriola is tinder-dry and out of water… well, what then?

The first photo shows the bottle on a stump, which is where it lives. For the second photo I moved the bottle to give you a better look.

The stump is under a large cedar tree, so it’s not like it’s in bright sunlight all day long. But you can see the sun in the first photo. Would afternoon sun shining through this glass be enough to start a forest fire?

I like to leave other people’s trailmarker art projects alone, but I’m wondering if I should remove this one. What do you think? Any members of Gabriola Fire and Rescue want to weigh in on this?
