The steps down to Whalebone Beach need somebody’s help. Something’s gone wrong at the bottom of the staircase, and the gap between the last stair and the sand is too great a gap. People who are young and fit will still be able to get onto the beach, but my elderly friend hasn’t a hope.
If you’re good at building things, fixing things, and making staircases safe for all of Gabriola’s beach-lovers, maybe you should wander down to Whalebone soon, and take a look at this.

A friend who lives near Whalebone beach reports that the large flat rock that formed the last step down onto the beach was washed out during the wind storm a couple of weeks ago. Nice though the natural touch is, practically a concrete step should be put in place, since anything else isn’t likely to survive a storm. Presumably this is something the RDN could be asked to do?

Hey, this has been bad since I was last there in mid January – must have been the January storms that took the rocks away from the foot of that excellent staircase. Probably too close to the tideline for further carpentry – it probably needs a stonebuilt solution, before the foot of the staircase starts to disintegrate too. Sorry I won’t be back for another month…..

John — perhaps you’d like to phone the RDN and ask them? I took the photos and blogged about this, so I figure I’ve done my bit. :-)
Islandblog — take a look when you get back, mmmkay? I wonder if anybody will have done anything by then.
