Gory idea for a Gabriola Hallowe’en costume
If you’re looking for a Gabriola-themed Hallowe’en costume, you’ve got several options. In the horror and ick department, here’s today’s inspirational photo for the do-it-yourself costume makers. This is a dead deer in the Gabriola woods. All the fur is gone, the nose has been ripped off and eaten by some other animal, and… well, it looks rather gory, doesn’t it?
If you were to make a mask that looks like this deer, you’d certainly stand out at any Hallowe’en party. And you’d probably be the only Gabriola dead deer in attendance.

Well isn’t *that* special.
You know I would go for it… though for the difficulty of reproducing the scent true-to-life… I will have to pass.
Are you sure you couldn’t have used macro mode on your camera to really show us the details of what is going on with the rotting deer head?

specialk, just for you I’ll try to do a better job next time I find a dead deer in the woods. I’m sure I can get you some nice macro shots if I just try harder! :-)

Hmmm…odd that all the fur is gone. Someone skinned it?

Karen, I think the fur just kind of rotted away in the rain, or was ripped away by animals and birds (turkey vultures, eagles) who wanted to get at the deer’s flesh. This deer was at the side of a path, and we walked past it a couple of times a week for many months. There were no signs of the deer having been skinned by a human.
Learning more than I wanted to know about dead deer is just one of the benefits I get from having a dog and walking in the woods every day.
