Look what else grows in our woods!
The other day I was bushwacking my way through the middle of nowhere, and came across these plants.
Well. Whatever could they be? I knew at a glance they’re not native plants, nor are they one of the usual invasive plant species I come across on the island. Hmmm.
Perhaps a less-common invasive species, I thought. Giant hogwhatever? I wished I’d brought my plant identifcation book along. I took some photos of the mystery plant and kept bushwacking until I found a way out of the forest.
Once home, I googled Giant Hogweed to see if that’s what I’d found. Hmm. Definitely not that! What, then?
I looked again at the photos I’d taken, pondered some more, and zoomed in for a closer inspection. Let’s see: clusters of five or more narrow pointy leaves with serrated edges… oh! Right. Of course. Why didn’t I think of that?
As I’ve said before, it’s amazing what one find in the woods. (Shelters, salal thieves, apppliances, rusting cars… and this.)

Nothing. I left the plants in the woods — untouched — and came home for dinner.

That’s good, but I wonder if deer like that type of umm greens. That would
be an interesting sight. Do you think it would affect the personality of the deer.
Maybe they would sleep more and leave our gardens alone. Ha Ha!
