How to find Gabriola’s new park?
So, you know we’ve got a new park on Gabriola, right? Coats Marsh Regional Park, it is. There was an opening ceremony the other day. Did any of you go?
Apparently there’s an entrance to this park on Aiden Road, off Coats Road, so I set off to find it. And good luck with that! Aiden Road doesn’t seem to be listed on local road maps.
I started at the village, drove along South Road, and turned left on Coats Road. Between South Road and Hess there’s only one side-street shown on the map, and it’s unlabelled. When I got to that street, I found that it didn’t have a street sign, either. Is this some kind of conspiracy?
At the end of that unmarked street, there’s a ‘private property – no trespassing’ sign on the right, but an unmarked entrance straight ahead. I went straight, thinking that must be the way. It did lead to a marsh, all right, but there’s no park sign, no trail, nothing. Isn’t there always a sign when a new park is opened?
It would be nice to have a street sign or a park sign, just so I’d know if I was in the right place after all.
