Georgi Georgiev is gearing up for another land speed record.

At Battle Mountain in the Nevada Desert on Sept. 15, Georgiev’s high-tech carbon fibre and kevlar vehicle, which he designed and built on Gabriola Island, will try to inch closer to the speed of sound, surpassing the world record he and teammate Sam Whittingham established last year at the same location. Georgi gave us a tour of his workshop last fall. Fascinating! I would love to ride his built-for-speed bicycles, but I’m afraid I wouldn’t go anywhere near as fast as Sam can go.
