By now you’ve heard of the new Transport Canada rules for ferries, which means that the Quinsam can’t carry as many passengers as it has been able to — not unless BC Ferries adds another staff person to the Quinsam. I expect this will lead to maddening sailing waits in the tourist season.

Anyway, it’s not just Gabriola that’s affected by the new rule; other island communities served by small ferries are in the same predicament. The Queen Charlotte Islands Observer reports that their ferry, the Kwunza, has been given an exemption from the new rules by Transport Canada. Do you suppose we could get an exemption, too?
