I’ve always wished I could sight-sing, but I can’t. The notes on a page make sense to me if I already know the tune, but what good is that? I want to be able to look at the notes and sing a tune I don’t know, without messing it up.

So imagine my glee when I spotted Leah Hokanson’s poster today. It says:

Intro to Sight Singing for Adults

Sight singing is the ability to sing musical notation on sight. We will explore rhythm, intervals (relationship between notes), and how to translate written notation into the glorious sound of music. Learn the fundamentals of reading music in a fun, engaging atmosphere with other singing enthusiasts!

The workshop will be this coming Saturday, January the 17th, from 10 am to 4 pm. It’s at the Women’s Institute Hall, and costs 65.00 ($50.00 if there are more than six participants).

Leah is an incredibly talented musician with more expertise than you can imagine, so this is fine news. While you’re thinking about the workshop, take a peek at Leah Hokanson’s CD, which you can buy at CD Baby.

For more details, or to register, call Leah at 247-9854. I won’t print Leah’s email address here, because I don’t want spammers to harvest her address. But I will tell you that Leah’s email address consists of her first name and last name (no space between them, and remove the second ‘h’ that text ) at yahoo.com.
